Raymond M. Reid, ’84, was a three-year starter and two-year captain for the Owls. He played in three NCAA Division II semi-finals and one championship game. He went on to serve as assistant coach from 1983 to 1988, helping the Owls to their first NCAA Division II championship in 1987. He served as head coach from 1989 to 1996, and guided his Owls to NCAA Division II championships in 1990, 1992 and 1995. Reid’s teams had a phenomenal 146-17-15 record. He was selected as a Coach of the Year three times by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He was named head coach at the University of Connecticut in 1997 and, within two years, led the Huskies to the nation’s top ranking.
