Brian Bliss, ’87, was the first player in Southern Soccer history to have his number retired. A four-year starter, three-time captain and two-time All-American, Bliss helped Southern compile a 60-14-8 record during his career. A member of the U.S. National Team and the 1990 U.S. World Cup Team, Bliss represented the United States in the 1986 and 1987 World University Games and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He was the first player selected in the 1987 Major Indoor Classic and he has played professionally in Germany and with Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew.
